About Us

The Center for Ginger Research was established in 2021. Our goal is to conduct collaborative research with other institutions. Currently, we have a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in place with the Center for Dryland Agriculture (CDA) at Bayero University, Kano. Situated within the College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences at the Kafanchan Campus of Kaduna State University, we are strategically located for our research endeavors.

Our team comprises a diverse group of multidisciplinary professionals selected from fields such as agronomy, soil science, food science, microbiology, pharmaceutical sciences, agricultural economics, and more. With this expert lineup, we are poised to deliver groundbreaking research outcomes that will create opportunities for stakeholders across the ginger value chain

Welcome note

Welcome to the Centre for Ginger Research. We are a hub of excellence dedicated to productive, dynamic, and innovative research aimed at genetically enhancing ginger for the local, national, and international communities. Our focus lies in advancing agronomic and husbandry practices in ginger production, as well as mechanizing and refining cultivation, harvesting, processing, and storage methods.

Our research findings will be shared with researchers, farmers, marketers, pharmaceutical industries, and food processing companies through the publication of research papers, institutional bulletins, and articles in various languages. Additionally, we will conduct training courses, seminars, and field days periodically to equip extension staff, farmers, industrialists, and policymakers with the latest ginger research insights. Furthermore, to reach a broader audience, we will organize radio and television programs with the same objective.

To develop high yielding ginger varieties for local, national and global markets and standardize the production and trade of ginger.
